5 WEEK MECHANIC / TECHNICIAN PROGRAM

The 5 week MECHANIC / TECHNICIAN program, offered by the Juki & Union Special Technical Training Center, is a comprehensive course designed to develop an individual into a confident, productive mechanic/technician. This course is designed with the novice in mind, but can also be very beneficial to experienced mechanics.

Approximately 25% of the course is spent in the classroom, where students are trained on needles, threads, lockstitch formation, chainstitch formation, overedge formation, coverstitch formation, seam identification and machine adjusting and troubleshooting specifications.

Approximately 75% of the course is spent in the lab, where students learn to put to use the information learned in the classroom, as well as disassemble, assemble, adjust, sew-off and troubleshoot a variety of sewing machines.

Training aids such as films, slides, stitch boards, work aids and hands-on machines, are used throughout the program. Each student is supplied with a text book and catalogs, which include the stitch formation books, needles catalogs and other important information, that can be used when they return to their companies.

The course is designed to teach the student the theory of how and why each of the stitches are formed, and how they will effect the machine during sewing. By learning the theory behind each stitch formation, the student can then apply this knowledge to any piece of sewing equipment, regardless of the style, type or brand.

Students return to their jobs with increased confidence and abilities. The technical skills that they acquire bring improved communications and teamwork, increased productivity and garment quality, less machine downtime, and reduced training time and costs.
